BEST OF THE REST
THE CAPTURE BBC1, 9pm
IT’S had us gripped, this high-tech cryptic drama series. Constant surveillance, manipulation of CCTV, data mining, deep fake images – it’s all been terrifyingly topical.
Half the time we haven’t had a clue what’s going on: we don’t know who are the good guys and who are the baddies, or what their motives are for whatever they’re doing. But that’s what’s made it brilliant – they’ve treated the audience as intelligent and trusted us to keep up and stay involved.
So, now the finale has arrived, they’d better give us the answers we’re after. They’re not likely to be supplied by Jessica Mallory, newly arrived in London and played by X-Men star Famke Janssen, who’s been brought in to make sure the intelligence service’s biggest secrets stay that way. While Rachel (Holliday Grainger) finds herself facing an impossible choice that will decide Shaun’s fate and have huge repercussions for the whole criminal justice system.
ZOMBOAT! ITV2, 10pm
PUTTING that title aside – which we must, because the clumsy portmanteau and exclamation mark is all a bit too much like something Alan Partridge might pitch – it looks like we could have a nice new little comedy here.
The premise is that Birmingham has been taken over by a zombie apocalypse. Ok. And a pair of sisters, Kat and Jo, decide that their best way of escaping the undead is by canal boat.
Fair enough. Everyone knows zombies can’t swim and walk slightly slower than a narrowboat can travel.
Their plan gets slightly complicated by the discovery of two stowaways – pals Sunny and Amar, who hid aboard when the stag do they were on turned sour.
And we’re not talking a dodgy stripper, but everyone turning into zombies and trying to kill them before they can escape back home.
The cast of mainly newcomers includes Downton Abbey’s Cara Theobold.
