BEST OF THE REST

-

TASKMASTER Dave, 9pm GREG DAVIES and Little Alex Horne preside over contestants David Baddiel, Ed Gamble, Jo Brand, Katy Wix and Rose Matafeo.

For those uninitiated to the ways of the Taskmaster, the five comedians spend time taking on ridiculous and pointless challenges to win adoration from Lord Taskmaster (aka Greg).

And he’s mostly unwilling to give out praise.

This time the contestants arrive at a remote wasteland for a challenge involving eggs and “metal things”. Ed spends a lot of time sticking plasters to an egg, while David tries his best to become an Egg Liberator.

Later, in a Mount Rushmore-inspired task, David spray-paints his face and Rose Matafeo sculpts some vegetables.

The five must then place five gold rings on a drumstick, while keeping hands in the praying position at all times.

And in a game involving a horse and a laminator, Jo reveals her stunning psychic powers.

Brilliantly bonkers as always.

IT’S back to the 1980s as Luther star Idris Elba’s semi-autobiographical comedy returns for a second series.

A warm-hearted sitcom, expect gentle humour as we follow the West African Easmons family living in East London.

There’s also plenty of 1980s nostalgia – within five minutes there is mention of Findus Crispy Pancakes, the TV show ‘Allo ‘Allo, the 1982 movie ET and Danielle Steel’s novels.

We pick up where we left off, with Walter (Elba) having been elected as the union rep at the factory. But he’s thrown into the deep end when he’s forced to negotiate job cuts.

Meanwhile, Kirsty (Kellie Shirley) is sneaking around in disguise, trying to hide from an old flame who’s back in town. She’ll have to face telling Bagpipes, played by Bill Bailey.

Also, Valentine (Jimmy Akingbola) has finally moved out of the Easmons’ home, but bachelor life is not what he thought it would be.
