- By PAUL BRITTON

A BABY girl who died after she was taken to hospital from a flat in Radcliffe, Bury, has been named as Orianna Crilly-Cifrova.

The 12-month-old was named in court as a man appeared before magistrates charged with her murder.

Orianna’s mother is also facing a criminal charge in connection with her daughter’s death.

Jamie Chadwick – who is not the baby’s father – is charged with a single count of murder.

The 21-year-old, of Cross Lane, Radcliffe, appeared before Manchester and Salford magistrates court yesterday morning.

Wearing glasses, a grey jumper and trousers, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and full address during a brief hearing.

There was no application for bail. No plea was entered. Chadwick was remanded in custody by the bench of magistrates and is due to appear at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court on October 22.

Magistrates were told by prosecutor Ruth Mann he has been charged with an ‘indictable only’ offence, meaning the case can only be heard by a judge in the crown court.

Police confirmed that Chelsea Crilly – identified in court as Orianna’s mother – has also been charged.

The 19-year-old, of Warwick Road, Atherton, Wigan, is charged with causing or allowing the death or serious harm of a child, police confirmed.

She too appeared at Manchester and Salford magistrates court, as her family sat in the public gallery.

Crilly spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address.

No plea was entered.

An application for bail made on her behalf was refused.

Crilly was remanded in custody to also appear at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court on October 22.

Police said officers and emergency services were called to reports that Orianna was ‘injured’ at a property on Cross Lane, Radcliffe, Bury, shortly after 2.25pm on Wednesday.

She was taken to hospital where she died despite the best efforts of specialist doctors, police said.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Two people have been charged after a baby girl died in Radcliffe.

“Jamie Chadwick, 21, of Cross Lane, Radcliffe, has been charged with the murder of a one-year-old girl.

“Chelsea Crilly, 19, of Warwick Road, Atherton, Wigan, has been charged with causing or allowing the death or serious harm of a child.”

The case has also been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch.
