Ole stays positive

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer’s positivity continued with his United team talk ahead of their draw with Liverpool.

The Reds were 10 minutes away from sealing just their third win of the Premier League season but Adam Lallana’s 85th-minute tap in secured a point for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Solskjaer made three changes to the side that lost at Newcastle, as Victor Lindelof,

Marcos Rojo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka came in. United switched to a 3-4-1-2 formation that flummoxed the Premier League leaders and Marcus Rashford put United ahead on 36 minutes.

Liverpool arrived at Old Trafford five points clear and on a 17-match winning run and United are still six games without a win in regulation time.

Amid speculation over his future against a daunting opponent, Solskjaer maintained a winning mentality in his preparations.

When asked if he had told the United players how important it was to avoid defeat, Solskjaer replied: “No, I told them how important it is to win against them.

“I’m disappointed we can’t sit here and talk about a win but, of course, the performance is very positive, and I think that they were so disappointed in the dressing room.

“And I’m sure they’ll go back and think ‘we’re disappointed but we played against a very good team and we’ve just got to kick on’.”

Rashford added: “We deserved the three points. I don’t think they were good enough to get a draw out of the game or a win but this is football. It was a big opportunity missed and we just fell short.

“Hopefully in midweek we can get a win [against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League] and it will start a run for us.”
