Gunman opens fire on car
POLICE INVESTIGATING REPORTS OF FIREARM DISCHARGE AS CASINGS FOUND ON GROUND
GUNSHOTS were fired through the rear window of a car.
Police officers were called to reports of a firearm discharge in Oakfield Street, off Cheetham Hill Road in Cheetham Hill.
Detectives discovered a car window was shattered by gunshots, while a number of casings were also on the ground.
Nobody was injured and no arrests have been made.
Oakfield Street was sealed off following the incident which took place at around 9pm on Sunday.
Forensic and TAU officers could be seen combing the area for clues yesterday.
They were focusing their attention on a silver car parked outside a house.
Neighbours were told to use the rear door of their homes when they needed to leave the street so they did not disturb the investigation. The road re-opened again at lunchtime.
Residents in the area said they heard shouting on Sunday night before officers arrived to the street.
One woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said there had been a number of disturbances on the street in recent months.
She said: “It’s scary, we don’t know what to do.”
Greater Manchester Police continue to investigate and are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward.
Inspector Tony Platten, of the City of Manchester Division, said: “Thankfully no one was injured in this shocking incident, however that doesn’t mean to say that we are not treating it extremely seriously.
“Our officers are working hard to establish the facts and trace any vital evidence.
“If you were in the area on Sunday 20 October 2019 and saw anything unusual or suspicious please let our officers know.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone that was on or around Oakfield Street at the time of the incident and may have heard or seen anything unusual or suspicious. “Any dashcam or CCTV footage could prove invaluable in our search for more information.
“I would also like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to protect residents and find those responsible.”
