Thief hops it with pet rabbit

- By ALEXANDRA RUCKI

A THIEF jumped over a garden wall and crawled into an outhouse to steal a pet RABBIT.

CCTV footage captured the burglar spending around 30 minutes in the outhouse before he crawled back, carrying a bunny inside a sleeping pouch.

He is seen scaling the garden wall on Windsor Terrace, in Milnrow, Rochdale, and running away with the pet.

Natalie Clegg, owner of the rabbit named Arthur, has been left devastated following the burglary which took place on Saturday, October 19.

She rescued the brown coloured crossbreed from RSPCA Altrincham last year, alongside another brown rabbit named Olive.

Rabbits bond for life and the couple suffer from anxiety when they are not together.

Natalie said they both suffered a miserable start to life, living in cramped conditions and only fed bread, before they were rescued by the RSPCA.

She is now desperate to reunite the rabbits and is offering £100 for anybody who can help bring Arthur back home.

Natalie, 28, told the M.E.N.: “It is unbelievable. We keep them safe outside, you don’t expect someone to take one. They are not worth anything.”

She added: “Rabbits bond for life, they have been separated. When they are separated they get really depressed.

“Seeing her suffer, I am so desperate to get him back.”

Arthur is thought to be aged around two-years-old and weighs three kilos.

As he was rescued he does not like being handled or picked up. The incident has been reported to police who are investigating. Anyone with information can contact GMP on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

JUST look at that face. It’s hard to believe that this adorable bundle of fluff has been looking for a home for more than a year.

Young Joy arrived at the RSPCA’s Manchester and Salford branch in September last year. She was one of a litter of tiny, baby bunnies. She was malnourished and very poorly.

The Himalayan rabbit did bond with her brother Marcus, but was also sick when he arrived and sadly didn’t pull through.

RSPCA bosses are now hoping to find

Joy a new home – complete with a male companion. The one-year-old is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.

She can be a little timid and wary of people but is very content with a rabbit friend. Joy likes living outdoors in her two-tier hutch, but could live indoors in a suitable space. This Adoptober the RSPCA is shining a light on rabbits and small furries in its care which are looking for homes. For information visit www. rspca.org.uk/findapet .
