EX-CORRIE STAR IN TEARS AS SHE GETS STRICTLY AXE
FORMER Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley was in tears as she became the fifth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.
The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off – and this weekend it was Catherine and her partner Johannes Radebe and BBC sport presenter Mike Bushell and his partner Katya Jones.
Catherine, 36, paid tribute to professional dancer Johannes for ‘changing her life’ as she departed the dancefloor.
As she spoke through the tears she reassured host Tess Daly about her eye makeup ‘it’s waterproof.’
“He’s like my best friend,” she said about Johannes.
“Just the opportunity to work with amazing people and get critiqued off amazing people.
“I never thought I’d say this, I’m going to keep it up because I fell in love with it.
“I’ve loved every second, this man has changed my life.”
And Johannes said: “Most of all, I want to say thank you to this woman.
“She has been a light for me. Thank you for accepting me for who I am and for showing me joy every day. Thank you.”
Both couples repeated their routines – Mike and Katya performed their tango to What You Waiting For? by Gwen Stefani and Catherine and Johannes performed their cha cha to Scared Of The Dark by Steps – in a bid to remain in the competition.
The popular pair were sent home after head judge Shirley Ballas, who has the deciding vote on the panel, chose to save Mike and Katya.
She said: “Well, I thought both couples really stepped it up a notch and this is always the most difficult decision for me, but based on a good focus, difficult content, with some really beautiful footwork in there with stronger technical skills for me, cleaner and polished. I’m going to save Mike and Katya.”
Catherine, who played Eva Price in Corrie, previously said ITV banned her from appearing on Strictly while she was in the soap.
The Walkden actress claimed she was only allowed to be on ITV shows such as Dancing On Ice during her time on Corrie.
On the launch show last month she joked that her dance style was ‘Mr Bean.’
But in the first week of the contest she was tipped as a ‘force to be reckoned with’ by Shirley.
