SCHOOLCHILDREN have shown the true meaning of what it means to be a Mancunian after raising almost £7,000 for a city centre homelessness charity.

This year, pupils and staff at three schools run by the Kingsway Community Trust have been working hard, raising money for their chosen charity - Coffee 4 Craig.

Operating in Oldham Street, Coffee 4 Craig provides support for some of the most vulnerable people in Manchester who have no other place to go, other than sleeping rough on the streets.

They are dependant on the generosity of the public to keep their operation running and this recent and incredibly generous donation will provide a huge boost as the charity prepares for winter - the toughest time of the year for people sleeping rough.

Hendrix Lancaster, co-founder of Coffee 4 Craig, said: “People know that the donations they send our way make a massive difference to the lives of people who’ve fallen on some really hard times.

“To see these children, the next generation of Manchester, being so kind with their time and money is truly wonderful to see.”

The schools that took part in fundraising this year were Cringle Brook Primary School in Levenshulme, Green End Primary School in Burnage and Ladybarn Primary School in Withington.

The trust’s schools embarked on a wide range of fundraising activities this year, including donating funds raised during the annual Christmas and Eid fairs, student leaders climbing Mount Kinder and several teachers from each of the three schools taking part in a Tough Mudder challenge and the Manchester 10k.

In total, £6,717 was raised by the schools’ trust. Lisa Vyas, head of the trust, said: “To say that I am proud of the pupils and staff at our three schools is an understatement. The children have taken such an active role in taking up this cause, it’s the teachers and parents who have been led by them and not the other way around.”
