THIS is the moment two terror suspects were boxed in by police before being pinned to the ground and arrested.

The black Range Rover was stopped by officers on Deansgate in Manchester city centre yesterday afternoon following reports of two men acting suspiciously on nearby Chapel Street in Salford.

Dramatic footage shows police surrounding the vehicle and looking through windows before opening the passenger and driver doors and pulling two people from inside.

They were then held on the ground while more officers arrived at the scene.

GMP confirmed the men were arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Deansgate, near to where it becomes

Chester Road, was taped off for several hours after ‘suspicious items’ were found inside the vehicle.

GMP said these have been ‘extensively examined’ by bomb disposal officers and are not a danger to the public.

They said in a statement: “Earlier today a precautionary cordon was put in place on Deansgate as an assessment was carried out of suspicion items found in a car.

“These items have now been extensively examined by bomb disposal officers and it has been confirmed that they represent no danger to the public.

“As a result the cordon has now been lifted.

“The two men arrested in connection with the incident remain in custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1558 of October 30, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
