Another case of Yes, Pieminister?
A NEW restaurant dedicated to pies is set to open in Manchester city centre, as Pieminister expands its reach.
A planning application has been lodged with Manchester council to turn a former printing shop on Deansgate into a small restaurant.
The new site for the pie chain will have around 20 covers on the ground floor and a large basement space to prepare for office catering.
The bigger kitchen would also mean Pieminister would be able to cater local weddings, something they do for a small radius around Sheffield but haven’t done in the Greater Manchester region before.
Making its debut will be Pieminister softserve ice cream, with unusual flavours inspired by sweet desserts such as cherry pie. The new restaurant would count popular brunch spot Federal as its next-door neighbour, with Albert’s Schloss, Dirty Martini and the Peaky Blinders bar all nearby.
It would be the second Manchester location for the brand, which is already well-established on Church Street in the Northern Quarter after opening back in 2013.
Confirming the news, managing director and co-founder Jon Simon said: “We do a great business in the Northern Quarter and it’s gone from strength to strength. Manchester’s been a great city for us.”
The new site is in the Grade II-listed Royal London House, but Jon hopes the team can begin work before Christmas and be open in early 2020.
Pies in Pieminister are often served in stacks, layered with mash potato, mushy peas, cheese, gravy and crispy shallots.
Pieminister plans to open at 198 Deansgate early next year.
