Focus is top four now - Aguero

- By JOE BRAY

SERGIO Aguero played down the importance of his goal in City’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United, instead choosing to focus on the significance the victory will have come the end of the season.

The striker broke the deadlock against a stubborn Sheffield United side, who had previously seen a breakaway Lys Mousset goal ruled out by VAR for a marginal offside call.

But Aguero was on hand to pick up the ball from a fine Kevin de Bruyne pass and fire beyond on-loan United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

De Bruyne wrapped up the three points with a goal of his own as City moved back to within a point of second-placed Leicester.

Liverpool’s win earlier in the day keeps City 14 points behind the leaders having played a game more, but Aguero insists the three points is more important to secure Champions League qualification next season.

“We had to win,” he explained. “We are happy because we need the three points.”

Describing his goal, Aguero paid tribute to his team-mates and manager, saying: “I play with good players so to score goals for me it is easy. Always Pep makes sure we focus every game and we are training hard.”

And the striker echoed sentiments from Guardiola and team-mate Bernardo Silva after the defeat to Wolves as he ruled City out of the title race.

“Now Liverpool is too hard,” he explained. “We have to focus just on winning because we need to play Champions League next season. We have to play the same way and see what happens.”
