Ole wants club – and Neville – to be united

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has told Gary Neville now is not the time to discuss issues at United and insists the club made ‘strides’ in their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.

The Reds suffered their seventh Premier League defeat of the campaign at Anfield, after which former skipper Neville embarked on a post-match tirade against executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Neville said the running of the club had been ‘unforgivable’ and opined ‘if you don’t lose your job for essentially overseeing that investment, that wage bill, and putting that team out on the pitch then I have to say something is really wrong.’

Solskjaer called for unity in the wake of the anti-Woodward and anti-Glazer chanting during the 4-0 thrashing of Norwich City earlier this month and refused to directly respond to his former team-mate’s critique.

United head into tonight’s Premier League game at home to Burnley 30 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“We’ve lost to Liverpool, a team that you all say are fantastic, and we’ve been in the game until the last kick of the ball,” Solskjaer said. “And, for me, that’s strides forward.

“And, of course, we’re disappointed in losing the game. We don’t want to be behind them in the league, but there were signs there that we are on the right track, definitely.

“And, for me, now is not the time to speak about recruitment. We’re looking to the next game against Burnley.

“We’re always looking to improve the squad and to improve the club but for my mind, now is not the time, Gary, to start this discussion.

“You can look back at history and, of course, we know we’re not where we want to be and should be and historically where we have been. It’s just down to us now to work better.

“I’ve been here 13 months, my experience with the players we’ve brought in has been good, so no complaints whatsoever.”

Solskjaer also suggested the Football Association’s charge against United in the defeat to Liverpool was harsh.

“Maybe I shouldn’t talk too much about that,” Solskjaer remarked.

“Let’s get that decision done but... sorry [press officer] Karen [Shotbolt]. It(the goal)’s overturned.

“I reacted myself because everybody could see it was a foul.”
