Ole calls for fans to help players with positive chant
OLE Gunnar Solskjaer suggested United players would respond to more positive chanting from supporters after they again expressed their disapproval of Ed Woodward and the club’s owners.
Fans in the Stretford End sang sinister songs about Woodward and the Glazer family, who have owned the club for nearly 15 years, for the second home Premier League game running in the demoralising defeat to Burnley.
The majority of the crowd also stood during a rendition of ‘Stand up if you hate the Glazers’.
Solskjaer called for unity in the wake of the anti-Woodward and anti-Glazer chanting during the 4-0 stroll against Norwich City earlier this month. Although he understood the anger United supporters aired, Solskjaer said the players need their help.
“I can understand supporters are disappointed,” Solskjaer acknowledged. “Of course, when the times are tough. But there’s a way of... we just need to make sure we do try to help the players, help the team, help the club.
“I think the players hear the fans when they support them and that’s helped them, so keep sticking at that.
“At the end you do feel disillusioned, as you say, because maybe they do. But, for us, we’ve just got to stick to our values, stick to our beliefs and know there’s no use feeling sorry for yourself.
“You’ve got to go out there with the same commitment tomorrow, the day after, get ready for Sunday.
“We know we’ve had X amount of games since beginning of December and they are very stretched. Some of these have probably played more than they should have and expected, more mentally than physically I think they need a mid-season break.
“We just need to get over that line, not get these three games out of the way but look forward to Sunday, FA Cup against who knows who and there’s a chance then to get some belief back.”
