BABY Bertie’s life is at risk on next week’s Corrie, and tragedy strikes as pregnant Maria Connor suffers a miscarriage. Daniel Osbourne finds his oneyear-old son barely conscious in his cot - and devastatingly it turns out that the two incidents are linked, as it transpires that both Bertie and Maria have measles.

Daniel recently stopped Bertie from having the rest of his baby injections and when a rash is found on Bertie’s back, Daniel blames himself for not noticing and calling an ambulance sooner.

When the consultant confirms that Bertie has measles, Daniel’s beside himself and admits he didn’t take him back for the rest of his vaccinations.

Meanwhile Maria suffers a dizzy spell and tells Dr Ali Neeson that she’s bleeding, in harrowing Coronation Street scenes.

As the sonographer breaks the news that she’s lost the baby, Maria is absolutely shattered by the news.

Quizzing his ex girlfriend about her symptoms, Dr Ali realises that she has measles and says this is the likely cause of her miscarriage.

Maria reveals how she lost a baby 11 years ago, when she was with Liam Connor, and she can’t bear to go through the heartbreak again.

When Maria tells her friend Audrey Roberts that neither she or her brother Kirk had measles vaccinations when they were children, Audrey reveals that Bertie has been in hospital with measles and she must have caught it from him.

She’s further shocked to hear that Daniel, who is grieving the loss of his wife Sinead, failed to have Bertie vaccinated and her partner Gary Windass is livid.

Rob Mallard who plays Daniel Osbourne explains: “When the consultant confirms Bertie has the measles, Daniel immediately feels guilt and then fear.

“It doesn’t occur to him that it has gone beyond Bertie to begin with. He doesn’t realise the wider implications at all.”

Coronation Street’s research team have worked closely with NHS medical professionals to ensure the accuracy of the storyline.
