A YOUNG woman has been banned from the roads after she was caught drink-driving twice in four days.

Chloe Boylan, 21, was arrested in the early hours of the morning on July 16 last year after police saw her crash her Fiat 500 into a barrier on the M60 motorway.

She told an officer she had ‘three or four drinks,’ but that she was ‘chancing it,’ Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

Boylan, from Monsall, then failed a roadside breath test and a subsequent reading showed she was more than double the drinkdrive limit.

She blew a reading of 79 microgrammes – the legal limit is 35.

Just four days before this crash, on July 12, Boylan had been arrested for the same offence of drink driving.

She has now been banned from driving for 23 months.

Outlining the facts of the second incident, prosecutor Kate Draper said an off-duty police officer was driving near junction five on the M60 when he spotted the Fiat 500 crash into a barrier.

“The officer stopped at the scene and ambulance were in attendance as well”, Ms Draper added.

“The officer said the defendant smelled heavily of alcohol.

“Another female was also at the scene and when asked Boylan said she was the driver of the car, with the other female passenger.

“When asked whether she had been drinking, the defendant said she had had three or four drinks.

“The defendant made full admissions and said she was ‘chancing it.’”

Boylan provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to hospital, where a blood sample was taken. This also tested positive for alcohol.

The defendant was convicted of the first drink-driving offence in October last year.

She was fined and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

At the hearing, defence lawyer Declan Doherty said his client was of ‘exemplary character’ until July last year.

“She had everything going for her up until this point apart from a toxic relationship she was involved in and a peer group she was associated with”, Mr Doherty added.

“She found herself drinking and it was four days of absolute madness.

“There has been a significant period of time that has passed and there has been no repeat of these offences.

“She has got out of that toxic relationship and has disassociated herself from that peer group.”

Boylan, of Swinstead Avenue, pleaded guilty to one charge of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above the limit at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

She was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, 150 hours of unpaid work and a community order which will include the drink-impaired driving scheme.

She was also banned from driving for 23 months and made to pay £207 in court costs.
