Man fights for his life as three knocked down

THREE men are being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after being knocked down in separate crashes in Salford and Bolton on Friday night.

In the most serious of the incidents a 35-year-old man is fighting for his life after being hit by an Audi in Higher Broughton. Elsewhere in Salford a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with head injuries after being knocked down by a taxi on Trinity Way.

And in Bolton a 79-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being hit by a Volkswagen Golf on King Street.

No arrests have been made but police are appealing for witnesses to all three collisions. The Higher Broughton crash took place on Bury New Road, close to the junction with Greater Cheetham Street East, about 10.40pm, when the 35-year-old was hit by a grey Audi A6. The driver remained at the scene to speak with officers. Sgt Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “Sadly this incident has left a man in a critical condition, and we are keen to establish the circumstan­ces behind this collision.”

About three hours earlier police were called to King Street in Bolton after a 79-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Golf. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the car remained at the scene.

Sgt Matthew Picton, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “We are interested in speaking to anyone who was in the area of Little Lever last night between the time of 7.40pm to 8pm and close to King Street. It is important that anyone who was in the area described and was an eye-witness or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident gets in contact.”

And just before midnight police were called to Trinity Way in Salford after a man in his 20s was hit by a Toyota.

Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 2717 of 24/01/2020 for the Bolton crash or incident number 3272 of 24/01/2020 for the Higher Broughton crash.
