HUNDREDS of people gathered to say farewell to a schoolboy who was found dead in a lane.

Alex Rodda, 15, was discovered on Ashley Mill Lane in the Cheshire village of Ashley, close to Hale in Trafford, last month.

Matthew Mason, 18, has been charged with his murder.

He has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place. Alex’s family described him as ‘loving, caring, kind and loyal.’

The small Cheshire village of Audlem stood still as Alex , from Knutsford, was laid to rest.

Mourners hugged each other before the service began. Many wiped away tears. Dozens of teenagers gathered to say goodbye.

The card on a bunch of flowers from one of Alex’s cousins read: “To my beautiful cousin Alex. We are heartbroken, words cannot describe.

“It just doesn’t seem real that you’re not here. We will never forget you Alex.”

As the procession arrived, the village fell silent.

Alex’s white casket was covered in brightly-coloured flowers.

The hearse was filled with floral arrangements of his name and the word ‘love.’

Two cars filled with his closest family members, including his mum Lisa and dad Adam, followed. Inside the private service, a eulogy was read by his dad. His mum and close friend Georgia Wiseman read poems.

Denis Oliver, headteacher at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School where Alex was a Year 11 student, said in a statement at the time of his death: “Alex will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him within our close-knit school family.

“Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and friends at this very sad time.”
