Altrincham move into sixth place after seven goal thriller

- By CONNOR WHITLEY

ALTRINCHAM came out on top of a seven-goal thriller at J Davidson Stadium last night earning a 5-2 win over AFC Telford United in the National League North.

The visitors looked on top in the early exchanges hitting the crossbar twice through an Adam Walker header and a long-range effort from Brendon Daniels after 25 minutes. Just three minutes later, Hulme found himself one-on-one with the Telford goalkeeper before the 29-year-old cutely lobbed him for his first league goal since November.

Sean Densmore then doubled the advantage just before the interval with a beautiful looping shot from the left-hand side of the box over Michael Luyambula and into the top right corner.

The second half started frantically with three goals in the opening seven minutes.

Josh Hancock made it 3-0 after finding himself in a similar position as Hulme did, but instead he opted to place it low underneath Luyambula.

Hulme got his second minutes later converting from a cross by debutant Daniel Mooney. Telford then launched a comeback in the 52nd minute when Marcus Dinanga picked up a loose ball outside the box and placed in low to Tony Thompson’s left.

On the hour mark the visitors won a penalty after Matthew Stenson was adjudged to be fouled before Brendon Daniels converted from the spot low to Thompson’s right.

The comeback, however, was short lived after Altrincham captain Jake Moult scored his side’s fifth after Telford failed to deal with a corner.

The win now means the Robins move up to sixth, three points clear inside the playoffs.
