18-year-old charged over dad and son knife attack

Detectives also issue image of man they want to speak to in connection with stabbing

A TEENAGER has been charged following an alleged double stabbing in Piccadilly Gardens.

It comes as police appeal for help to find a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident. Detectives have released two images.

A 42-year-old man and his 17-year-old son suffered serious injuries following the incident outside Morrisons on Monday.

The teenager was later released from hospital. The man remains in a serious, but stable condition, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

Close, is accused of two counts of section 18 assault; and one count of possession of a knife.

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are urging anyone who saw the attack – or with further informatio­n – to come forward.

They are particular­ly keen to speak to anyone with footage.

Det Sgt Paddy Connell, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “Since this incident took place, we have been working round the clock to investigat­e and establish the full circumstan­ces surroundin­g what happened.

“We have released these images in the hope that somebody will identify the man pictured and contact police. If you recognise this to be yourself then I would urge you to get in touch.

“We are continuing to treat this as a targeted attack and remain keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage which captured any part of the incident.”
