TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who was chased down the street and killed by a man with an axe.

Ryan Lowry, 36, died at the scene following the horror attack on Moss Lane, Partington, on Thursday.

A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been detained under the mental health act.

The man, thought to be known by Mr Lowry, was seen smashing up a number of parked cars shortly before the attack. He then phoned the police before fleeing from the scene.

Emergency services attended the scene shortly before midnight, but Mr Lowry, from Marple, was sadly pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

In a statement, his family paid tribute to a man who ‘didn’t have a bad bone in his body.’ They said: “We, as a family, would like to thank all those that have sent such kind and thoughtful messages so far. They are testament to how well-loved and respected Ryan is.

“It’s hard to believe how something like this can happen to someone like Ryan, who did not have a bad bone in his body. All he ever did was to be there, in whatever way he could, for those that needed help.

“As a person full of kindness, strong principles and humour, he will be missed by so many. Please respect our privacy at this difficult time. Ryan loved motor cars and motor racing and was cofounder of the CALM All Porsche Trophy series, raising awareness and money for mental health. So many people have asked if there is anything they can do at this time. We know Ryan would appreciate, should anyone want to, any donations to CALM.”

Police say they are treating the incident as isolated, and confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in relation to Mr Lowry’s death.

A forensics tent was erected by officers on the driveway of a home on Moss Lane on Friday morning. Witnesses said a car with a smashed windscreen was parked on another driveway.

Det Chief Insp Colin Larkin, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with Ryan’s family, who continue to be cared for by specialist officers at this dreadful time.

“I would like to reassure the community, that while our enquiries continue, we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this tragic incident. The arrested man and Ryan were known to one another and police are working hard to understand the reason for this horrific attack.”
