Toffees boss in Solskjaer praise

- By TYRONE MARSHALL

CARLO Ancelotti gave a glowing appraisal of the job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing at United after their sides played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

The Italian, who has 25 years and more than 1,100 games under his belt, is impressed with the work his counterpart is doing at Old Trafford.

United’s eight game unbeaten run is their longest since the 11-game streak at the start of Solskjaer’s reign between December 2018 and February 2019 and Ancelotti, who has won three Champions

Leagues and is considered a managerial great, likes what he sees.

“I think United played well, they played good football, short passes, dangerous in counter-attacking,” he said.

“It is a team that has an idea and that is a manager’s job. I think he is doing really well for what I see today and the fact we competed with them is important for us. It gives us more confidence for the next game.”

The Toffees finished the game the stronger of the two sides and Ancelotti was sent-off for complaining at the decision to disallow Dominic CalvertLewin’s

deflected strike in injury time.

The ball hit Harry Maguire to wrongfoot David De Gea, but Gylfi Sigurdsson was lying in an offside position inside the six-yard box and while he didn’t touch the ball, VAR ruled he was interfering with De Gea.

“I ask for an explanation after the game. There was a misunderstanding on the pitch [and] he sent me off. After that I spoke with him calmly in the dressing room. I want to keep the conversation private and he will make a report for the referee,” said Ancelotti.
