Hats off to Palmer after his late winner

- NON-LEAGUE By WHITLEY CONNOR

A LATE Ashley Palmer header earned Stockport County a 1-0 win over Ebbsfleet United as they moved into the National League play-off places.

It took until the 87th minute for Palmer to convert from a Paul Turnbull cross to ensure the Hatters’ first away win of 2020.

Sam Walker, who made his 100th appearance for County, said: “We’re winners in there. All through the squad there’s a winning mentality. I don’t think you can survive at this club without that.”

Altrincham made it back-to-back wins in the National League North with a 2-0 win over Hereford.

Goals in each half from Elliot Durrell and Simon Richman means the Robins moved up to fifth.

Curzon Ashton were denied a win over leaders York City after a late equaliser from the Minstermen. A 72nd-minute strike from George Broadbent put the Nash in front only for Jordan Burrow to rescue a point for the hosts.

FC United earned a point against Warrington Town after a 90th minute Curtis Jones equaliser completed an eight-goal thriller in the Northern Premier League.

Goals from Morgan Homson-Smith and Tunde Owolabi put FC two up by the 40th minute but the scores were level by half-time. Warrington had the best of the second half going in front twice before a Paul Ennis penalty and Jones’ equaliser levelled the scores.

Ashton United shared the points with Whitby Town thanks to an 81st-minute equaliser from Bill Sass-Davies after the hosts opened the scoring after just a minute.
