Who’ll rise to the occasion and who’ll be half baked?

JUDGING by the opening sequence, we can expect a lot of drama from this year’s celebrity Bake

Off.

Mixing bowls are smashed, ingredients are accidentally whisked across the tent, food is given to the judges raw and someone actually passes out.

Let’s just say, the celebrity edition for Stand Up To Cancer! is a whole different – more amateur – ball game.

Over five episodes, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding return with their bonkers humour, while four famous faces do battle each week to win Star Baker from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

To begin, documentary maker Louis Theroux, comedians Jenny Eclair and Russell Howard, and athlete and Love Island star Ovie Soko step up to the plate.

Ovie does some lunges to limber up, while Louis begins what can only be described as thrusting.

“It’s very intimidating,” says Russell.

First they have to make a giant decorative biscuit.

“Are they going to surprise me? I doubt it,” says Paul, ever the cheerleader.

Louis embarks on a choc chip cookie that looks like a pizza, while Ovie makes a basketball cookie, Jenny whips up Frida Kahlo in biscuit form and Russell honours his dog Archie.

Then it’s the technical, which means they have to make a mille feuille pastry.

“Mille feuille? That’s the guy that was trying to kill Harry Potter,” says Russell.

And later there’s a choux-stopper, with the contestants tasked with creating their perfect day in 3D with choux buns.

Everything descends into a fondant-filled, colourful chaos, and it just makes for joyful telly.
