Brute broke lover’s ribs in ‘jealous’ rage

A ‘JEALOUS’ man stamped on his lover’s ribs after accusing her of having sex with another man.

Terrence Nixon attacked the woman as she lay helpless on the floor of her home in Leigh.

The ‘sustained attack’ only stopped when the woman’s 15-year-old daughter intervened.

Bolton Crown Court heard that Nixon, 48, had been in an on-off ‘casual sexual relationship’ with the woman for between eight and nine years. She had invited him round to her home on January 27, 2018, which led to the pair sitting on the sofa watching television together.

But as the conversation turned to the woman’s neighbours, Nixon accused her of having sex with another man.

An argument broke out when the woman said she had ‘no idea’ what he was talking about.

The pair began shouting at each other, and after Nixon was asked to leave, he punched the woman in the face.

As she repeated her demand, Nixon pushed her several times. Firstly, over the sofa and then into a chimney breast, which caused injuries to her head.

Bob Sastry, prosecuting, said: “At that stage, she was fearing for her safety and picked up a skull ornament and hit him over the head with it, causing his head to bleed.

“She was continuing to try to get him out of the address when he got her on the floor and stamped on her ribs, which caused her pain and she started crying. He then stamped on her ribs again.”

The attack only ended when the woman’s daughter rushed downstairs and told Nixon to ‘leave her mum alone.’

Her mum was then able to stand up and throw him out.

But the ordeal did not end there as Nixon picked up a Jack Daniel’s bottle and launched it through the front window of the home. The woman was taken to hospital, where doctors treated her for broken ribs, a collapsed lung and bruises to her body.

When Nixon was arrested the next day, he told officers he and the woman had also argued the day before the attack.

The court heard he had become jealous when she received a text message from someone while they had been shopping in Ikea.

In a victim impact statement, the woman said the attack had left her feeling ‘violated’ in her own home.

She added: “If my daughter had not come down, he could have killed me.”

She added that she has since been referred for cognitive behavioural therapy to help deal with her post-traumatic stress disorder.

Nixon, of Common Lane, Tyldesley, Wigan, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Paul Wood, defending, said Nixon had been drinking alcohol in the build-up to the attack.

Following the attack, he had ‘dramatically reduced his alcohol intake,’ stopped taking drugs and found a job fitting sprinklers with his brother.

Mr Wood argued that Nixon being sent to prison would impact on his 19-year-old son, with whom he lives.

He said: “The defendant has said that if he goes to prison, he expects to see his son with him in a short period of time. His son has been before the courts. He lives with his dad and has a really troubled background.

“He is on the straight and narrow and stability is being provided by his father. If that is taken away it may well have a negative impact on him.”

Handing Nixon an eightmonth jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, Recorder Mark Ainsworth told him: “I will remember this case because of just how close I came to sending you to prison.”

Nixon was also issued with a 10-year restraining order and told he must attend 20 days of rehabilitation and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
