Cleared, top doc accused of sex assaults on women during check-ups
A HOSPITAL consultant accused of sexually assaulting three women he was performing medical examinations on at the Manchester Royal Infirmary has been found not guilty.
Jurors unanimously cleared Dr Narendra Kochar, 50, from Timperley, Cheshire, of six counts of sexual assault.
The alleged offences related to three female complainants.
Manchester Crown Court heard that the allegations arose from his time working at as a consultant gastroenterologist.
Prosecutors had claimed that Dr Kochar ‘exploited’ the examinations ‘for his own sexual gratification.’
Dr Kochar told the court that he believed his conduct in relation to two of the complainants had been ‘completely faultless.’
In relation to allegations made by one woman, Dr Kochar said: “I don’t know why she said that. I don’t know.”
Speaking about another, he said: “I don’t remember the patient. But I have not done anything to anyone like that.”
Dr Kochar admitted that he would have behaved differently in hindsight to a third complainant.
“My communication and my way of examining should have been better,” he said.
Dr Kochar claimed that the woman who alleged he sexually assaulted her on a number of occasions was ‘blowing kisses’ at him on two occasions. “I didn’t make much of it,” he said. “I didn’t think it was of any significance at that time.”
Dr Kochar, of Spring Gardens, Timperley, was acquitted of six counts of sexual assault following the twoweek trial.
