Blunt force trauma?

THE GREAT CELEBRITY BAKE OFF FOR STAND UP TO CANCER Channel 4, 8pm

TALK about kitchen nightmares – one of the celebs in tonight’s episode has a run-in with a knife and then passes out on the floor. Usually we only have to worry about soufflés collapsing, not people. You’ll have to tune in to find out whether the injured celeb is singer James Blunt, YouTuber Joe Sugg or one of the TV presenters Alison Hammond or Alex Jones.

All four did at least manage to soldier on through the three baking challenges.

First they have to make a decorated traybake, which results in delights such as a swimming pool and a cosmic space scene.

None of them are regular bakers, with Alex admitting: “I once made banana bread that tasted of tuna.”

Alison, however, is brimming with confidence and says she’s never had a traybake brownie as good as her own. Whether Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will agree is another matter.

Meanwhile, it’s no surprise that ex-Army officer James approaches his baking like a military operation. He has a strategy and a ruler.

For the technical challenge, the celebs are given this rather worrying instruction from Prue: “What we’re after is 12 perfectly filled holes”.

She means Yorkshire puddings, for which we are grateful. Each must be filled with horseradish cream, rare steak and cress. No one is allowed to call their Aunt Bessie for help.

And later, the showstopper task is to make a 3D biscuit scene depicting what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Who will rise to the challenge and who will crumble under the pressure?
