Thousands of new jobs created to help in fight against virus
THE outbreak of coronavirus has left many people without work and wondering how they will keep money coming in.
However new roles are also being created as the region’s response to the virus kicks in.
As some businesses close their doors, others - and the public sector - are stepping up recruitment to meet the need for essential goods and services during the pandemic.
Manchester council has gathered together many of these opportunities in its latest bulletin, including delivery, cleaning and store assistant jobs at the major supermarkets and key worker roles such as social care right across Greater Manchester.
Here are some of the key recruitment drives currently taking place:
■ Co-Op: 5,000 roles for former hospitality workers
■ Morrisons: temporary shop assistants, pickers, drivers
■ Tesco: range of roles with immediate start.
Roles include store assistants, delivery drivers, pickers and distribution, including at OneStop branches.
■ Sainsbury’s: range of permanent positions
■ Asda: Wythenshawe store assistants
■ Lidl: in-store and warehouse jobs
■ Kellogg’s: technical operators in its Trafford and Salford plants.
■ B&Ms: temporary roles. Anyone interested should take their CV into their local store.
■ Hermes: delivery workers.
■ NHS: Nursing assistant, Manchester
■ Virgin Media: Call centre staff, Manchester
■ Domino’s: store staff and delivery drivers
■ ADR Network: HGV drivers
■ eXPD8: Flexible supermarket work
■ Brothers of Charity Service: support workers in Bury and Stockport
■ Mencap: support workers
■ Local authorities: care workers
