Queen’s special televised message

-

THE Queen is set to address the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth with a special broadcast about the coronavirus outbreak.

Buckingham Palace has said Her Majesty’s message will be televised tomorrow at 8pm.

The address from her home at Windsor Castle will also be broadcast on radio, and will be shown across the Royal Family’s social media accounts.

It is rare for the Queen to address the nation other than her annual Christmas Day message.

It will be only the fourth time she has delivered this type of pre-recorded message amid devastating news in her entire 68-year reign.

Similar broadcasts came following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, and when the Queen Mother died in 2002.

The announcement follows the news that her son, Prince Charles, tested positive for Covid-19, and is the first and only member of the Royal Family to have done so.

The Prince of Wales came out of self-isolation on Tuesday, a week after developing mild symptoms of the virus.

A spokesman for Clarance House said that while he is out of isolation, the Duchess of Cornwall remains in selfisolation as per the government instructions.

It also comes amid the latest figures published by the Department of Health and Social Care on Friday, which confirmed that the death toll for hospitalised coronavirus patients soared by 684 in a day.

A total of 38,168 people have now tested positive for the virus in the UK, and 3,605 of those hospitalised have died.
