BEST OF THE REST
MISTER WINNER
BBC2, 10PM
MISTER Leslie Winner, played by Spencer Jones, is like a modern-day Mr Bean. Calamitous, idiotic but with a good heart, he’s a joy to watch.
It’s his mum’s birthday lunch, but he’s not looking forward to it because her boyfriend, Steve, is only a year older than him. “I think it’s weird,” he says.
Steve (Oliver Maltman) is prone to talking about “you young ’uns” and particularly loves public displays of affection with Leslie’s mum Sharon, played by Harriet Thorpe.
However, there’s a turn of events when Steve offers to set up an interview for Leslie as a team manager at his mate’s law firm with a £50,000 basic salary.
Leslie’s preparation is meticulous. He has the right suit, he’s worked out the best answers, he’s thought of everything – hasn’t he?
Of course not. He’s forgotten one very important thing – and as always, it kickstarts a chain of disastrous events that are inevitable but funny all the same.
THE TROUBLE WITH MAGGIE COLE
ITV, 9PM
MAGGIE, played by Dawn French, has got some more making up to do in this final episode.
Having spent the night apart from husband Peter (Mark Heap) for the first time because she needed space, she wants forgiveness.
But she has no idea that he’s done something wrong.
Meanwhile, Jill (Julie Hesmondhalgh) is shaken after witnessing Peter and Karen (Vicki Pepperdine) kissing and wonders if she should tell Maggie what happened?
Elsewhere, Roxanna is still terrified by Alex’s alarming behaviour last night and is desperate to get to him before he confronts the money lenders.
But Maggie has only one thing on her mind. With the big village anniversary celebrations looming, she wants the whole family to reunite.
There’s a sense of impending doom as the villagers gather together for the fete – well we know what happened last time.
A sudden shocking series of events are put in motion that could cost the life of one beloved character.
