A CORONAVIRUS survivor has shared a harrowing account of her experience of the disease - in a bid to convince the public to stay at home.

Yvonne Campbell, a business manager at Manchester council, has been ill for more than 12 days with the virus.

She said she suffered only ‘mild symptoms’ at first but they gradually got worse and she was rushed into hospital via an ambulance last week.

Thankfully Yvonne, 49, has come through the worst of Covid-19 thanks to the fantastic efforts of NHS staff at Royal Oldham hospital, especially a medic called Bea who ‘can’t do enough’ for patients.

But she warned others not to underestimate the seriousness of the virus, saying she often feared she would not make it through the night.

In a series of tweets Yvonne said: “Covid-19 HELL! Pls listen to advice it is really this bad. I’ve been ill for 12 days starting with mild symptoms gradually getting worse and in hospital after being rushed in by ambulance Tuesday to resus.

“I’ve been in three wards, witnessed people dying and fighting for their lives.

“I’ve cried buckets, frightened I won’t see my family again and nothing I could do except hope I’d wake up the next day.

“I never went out except to work and followed all the advice.

“My heart breaks for the staff who are run ragged, they’ve taken such good care of us. Not being able to breathe is terrifying.

“Can’t manage without oxygen yet with a raging temperature is the infection taking over - hope anyone reading this contemplating going out #StaySafeStayHome #COVID19 thank you to our wonderful #NHS who’ve been amazing under such pressure.”

Over the weekend, the M.E.N. was inundated with reports of people ignoring the government’s advice to stay at home and help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Police told of finding large groups playing football in parks, sunbathing, having picnics and even swimming in the River Irwell.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock suggested the government could look at further restrictions if people continue to flout the rules.

Under the lockdown, people are only permitted to leave the house for food and medicine, exercise once a day near their home and to go to work if their job is ‘absolutely necessary.’
