Dad-of-four gym boss dies in quad bike crash

A MAN killed in a horror crash while riding a quad bike has been named locally as dad-of-four Tariq Khan.

The 36-year-old suffered fatal injuries in the collision on Green Lane, Great Lever, Bolton, on Wednesday evening.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Mr Khan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dozens of people have taken to social media to pay tribute. Floral tributes have also been left at the scene.

One note, from ‘mum and dad’ read: “To my loving son.

“May Allah look after you till I meet you, may Allah bless you highest rank in Janat Ul Firdos. Love you always & forever. Mum and dad.”

Great Lever councillor Mohammed Ayub described Mr Khan, who owned Pound 4 Pound Boxing and Fitness Centre and lived in The Haulgh, as a ‘nice young man’.

“It is tragic,” Coun Ayub added. “He was a close family member of mine.

He was an enthusiast­ic person and will be sadly missed.”

Police were called to the crash involving Mr Khan’s Suzuki quad bike and a white Mercedes at around 7.30pm.

Mr Khan was thrown from the bike after the impact of the crash forced it over to the kerb, where it hit a metal fence.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remained in custody for questionin­g.

Following the crash, Green Lane was closed between Manchester Road and Crescent Road for several hours while investigat­ion work was carried out. It has since reopened.
