Reds will have final say on Dean

- By RICHARD FAY

UNITED will need to give Dean Henderson permission to remain at Sheffield United for the rest of the Premier League season if it continues into July.

The keeper has shone while on loan at Bramall Lane but is only contracted to play for the Blades until June 30.

The 23-year-old was expected to return to Manchester and fight David de Gea for his place this summer, but his immediate future is now up in the air following uncertainty surrounding the season.

The Premier League want the season concluded by the end of July. But with Henderson’s deal up at the end of next month, M.E.N. Sport understand it would be in United’s hands to approve any extension.

However, there is no indication Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s would prevent him from extending the loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The Reds are due to play Sheffield United before the end of the season, although Henderson would be ineligible to feature for The Blades as part of the current agreement.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has already suggested it would be ‘morally wrong’ for United to recall Henderson from loan and not allow him to finish the season at Bramall Lane.

“I personally think it will be morally correct to leave [Henderson] playing with Sheffield United for the last 10 games of the season,” he said.

“Because of the legalities and the situation regarding the expiry of the loan, they might take that decision [to recall him], but we are not a threat to Man Utd.”

Four youngsters are still in the dark regarding their immediate futures following the expiration of their loan deals with EFL clubs.

Ethan Hamilton, Kieran O’Hara, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and George Tanner have seen their deals expire and the clubs are yet to make a decision on their futures as they await clarity on if, how and when the season will resume.
