People we have loved and lost
Malcolm Bird
Malcolm, 79, was born in Sale. He moved away several times but ‘always returned’, his family said.
He had a daughter Karen, son Andrew and grandchildren Jack, Luke, Oliver and Merryn.
He had many jobs throughout his life. He was a road manager for Eddie Grant when he worked for Harry Gunn Associates, a theatrical agent.
For many years he worked at a Volvo dealership in Rochdale. Later he worked in the warehouse at Selfridges, Manchester and in security at NXP in Stockport.
His daughter Karen said: “He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was always the life and soul of any party, and always enjoyed a good flirt.”
Thomas Sheen
Tom was born in Ancoats, the eldest of three siblings. He did national service aged 18 in Singapore.
Tom, who died aged 86, worked in the clothing trade as a garments cutter, then as cutting room manager. He retired aged 73 and lived in Seedley, Salford.
Tom loved going on foreign holidays and cruises.
He loved Benidorm as it was a short flight away and he could get cheap beer.
His family said: “Tom was a lovely person inside and out. He loved Gladys, his wife of 56 years.
“He was a lovely father, granddad and great granddad.
“He had many friends he loved and respected. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, friends and neighbours.”
James (Barry) Barrington Thackery Barry, 86, was a track athlete during his time serving in the RAF.

He later was a champion fell runner for Dark Peak and conquered the legendary Bob Graham Fell Race.
Barry was a much loved dad, brother, granddad and greatgrandad.
Mavis Holliday
Mavis, 78, lived in Gorton and was a sister, auntie, great auntie and great-great auntie.
Her family described her as ‘kind, friendly and with a heart of gold’.
“Always in our hearts love you loads”, her niece Lisa said.
Joan Davidson
Joan, from Old Trafford, died aged 78. She had daughters Beverley and Allison; five grandchildren Thomas, Adam, Amy, Toby and Lois; and four great grandchildren Nicole, Ryan, Lauren and Ashton.
Joan travelled the world with her late husband Tom Davidson, who passed in 2006.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than family.
Her granddaughter Amy said: “You will be forever missed but at least you are at peace now with grandad. Will love you forever.”
Graham Webster
Graham was widowed, as his wife Norma had passed away.
He had a daughter Sarah Knowles, son Mark and three grandchildren Rebecca, Christopher and Grace.
Graham lived in Peel Green all his life, he was in the army when he was younger.
After that he was a plumbers’ merchant in Eccles until he retired.
Paying tribute, his daughter Sarah said: “Graham will be missed so much, especially by all his grandchildren. Rest in peace dad.”
