Blues start to write to fans over refunds for game tickets

CITY have written to supporters as they start processing ticketing refunds for the season.

Fans have been waiting for an update since the season was halted back in March when it became apparent that it would be unlikely that they would be allowed into games.

Following recent discussions with the government and the Premier League that have added clarity to the situation, the club have made the decision to refund supporters either for individual match tickets that had been bought or in the case of season card holders for the value of six home games left in the competition.

There is also the option for the money already paid to be used as match credit for next season.

Anyone who bought tickets for the Real Madrid Champions League game will also get their money back, with no danger of them being removed from a cup scheme.

More details are expected this week.

The chances of City playing their remaining home games at the Etihad has increased after Premier League chief executive Richard Masters revealed that all 20 clubs were opposed to the idea of neutral venues.

However, even as the league looks to get back up and running next month it remains unclear when it will be deemed safe for spectators to attend matches again.

FA chairman Greg Clarke this month stated that fans will not be returning any time soon, with some estimates that it could be 2021 before it is possible for them to watch football again.

“The reality is that we just don’t know how things are going to pan out,’ he said in a letter to the FA governing council.

“But with social distancing in place for some time to come we do face substantial changes to the whole football ecosystem. For example it’s hard to foresee crowds of fans – who are the lifeblood of the game – returning to matches any time soon.”
