Gibson in 11 released by Salford after season ends

- By CHRIS OSTICK

DARRON Gibson is one of 11 players released by Salford City following the end of the League Two season.

Clubs in the bottom tier signalled their intention to end the campaign on Friday, with the top three sides set to be promoted and the next four heading for play-offs for the final slot in League One.

With the Ammies in mid-table, they are already looking to next season and have announced their retained list.

Former United and Everton midfielder Gibson, 32, played just four times for the club during their maiden Football League season having initally joined them over the winter to work on his fitness as he was without a club before Salford handed him a short-term deal.

Josh Askew, Craig Conway, Kieran Glynn, Kyle Letheren, Chris Neal, Michael O’Connor, Nathan Pond, Devante Rodney, Mark Shelton and Scott Wiseman are the other players leaving the club, which is co-owned by Gary Neville and the Class of ‘92.

Salford has seen a big turnaround in players since winning promotion to the Football League last season, including Adam Rooney and Liam Hogan.

Left-back Ibou Touray has had his contract extended to the end of the 2020/21 campaign while Carl Piergianni is retained despite having spent the second half of the season on loan at Oldham.

Also retained are Bruno Andrade, Luke Armstrong, Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, Ashley Eastham, Thomas Elliott, Daniel Gardner, Daniel Jones, Joseph Jones, Daniel Lloyd-McGoldrick, Martin Smith, Brandon ThomasAsante, Oscar Threlkeld, Richard Towell, Daniel Whitehead and James Wilson.
