A JEALOUS ex terrorised his former partner by climbing through her bedroom window and attacking her.

Stewart Edge, 34, has been jailed for 16 months following the incident at her home in Denton.

They had been in a relationship for seven years, but a restraining order was imposed against Edge following their break-up.

The attack marked the third time he had breached the order.

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Edge had jumped over a fence and climbed onto a flat garage roof before climbing through the window as his victim lay in bed at about 11pm on April 8. She started screaming as Edge began ‘ranting about other men,’ prosecutor David Lees said.

Edge then slapped her across the face and pushed her, causing her to fall into a set of drawers. The court heard the woman was scared and ‘didn’t know what he was going to do next.’ He snatched a mobile phone from her hands and left the house with it.

Edge later handed it back via her mother. In a statement read to the court, the woman said: “The incident left me very shaken up. I am scared of Stewart and what he might do.”

Nicola Gatto, defending, said that Edge had ‘struggled’ to come to terms with the end of the relationship. She said that when he drinks or takes drugs, his ‘paranoia’ becomes ‘significantly exacerbated.’

Ms Gatto accepted Edge’s behaviour was ‘persistent’ but that the victim was not seriously injured. The court heard Edge has 19 previous convictions for 34 offences, including a conviction for battery against the woman.

Sentencing, Judge John Potter told Edge that during the incident he was ‘terrorising those within it (the property) by acts of violence and threats being made.’

The judge said: “She is terrified of your behaviour towards her, and remains scared as to her future well-being at your hands, should you be at liberty.

“This was yet another incident of violent, bullying and controlling behaviour towards her.”

Edge pleaded guilty to affray, breaching a restraining order and common assault.

Another restraining order was imposed, to last for five years.
