CORRIE legend Julie Hesmondhalgh is hoping people will appreciate the ‘simpler way of life’ after emerging from lockdown. Julie, who played Hayley Cropper in the soap and stars in the BBC drama The A Word, says people may be pushed to spend again as the coronavirus lockdown measures have restricted what we can spend money on due to shops being shut.

But she’s hoping they’ll resist consumerism and continue to look after the nature around them which may have been hidden before due to noise and traffic.

Julie told us: “The skies have been clearer and I hope people will remember that.

“This has been a little taste of how quickly it heals. It’s a simpler way of life.”

Asked what she’d like to see after lockdown ends the mother-of-two said: “Maybe knock consumerism

BORIS Johnson has praised the resilience of extremely vulnerable ‘shielders’ from the coronavirus as lockdown measures are set to be eased for them from Monday.

The Prime Minister made the comments as he said 2.2 million shielding from Covid-19 in England will be able to spend time with other people outdoors.

Extremely vulnerable people who have been shielding in England can safely spend time outside, the Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick will confirm today.

The 2.2 million clinically extremely vulnerable people will be able to go outside with members of their household from Monday, while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines.

Those who live alone can meet outside with one other person from another household.

Reviews of the shielding guidance are expected to be made at regular points in the coming weeks.

Mr Johnson said: “I do not underestimate just how difficult it has been for you, staying at home for the last 10 weeks, and I want to pay tribute to your resilience.”
