Drink-drive suspect plunges into stream

-

A WOMAN was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a car plunged 15 feet into a stream.

Barrow Bridge Road in Bolton was taped off for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police and specialist fire crews rushed to the scene at about 8.30pm.

Minutes earlier, the white Ford Fiesta left the road and crashed through a metal fence before falling into Dean Brook.

Pictures taken at the scene showed the vehicle lying upside-down in the shallow water.

The occupants had managed to escape by the time emergency services arrived at the rural spot.

It is not believed that anyone suffered injuries.

After providing a positive breath sample to police, the driver was then arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

Following the crash, people were asked to avoid the area, just north of Moss Bank Park.

In a post on Facebook on Thursday evening, GMP Bolton North said: “The driver of the Fiesta involved in the RTC in Barrow Bridge has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after she provided a positive breath sample.
