EVERY council-owned bridge in Salford will be reviewed following the tragic death of schoolboy Adam Kay.

The bridges – including one at Clifton Country Park – will be riskassessed to see what safety measures can be put in place, Coun Derek Antrobus confirmed.

The aim is to prevent another tragedy following the death of 14-year-old Adam.

He was out playing with his friends in Clifton Country Park on June 2 when he got into difficulty in the water.

He jumped off a rock ledge and into the water and disappeared from sight after struggling to stay afloat.

A massive search operation was launched but tragically his body was found a short time later.

There have since been calls to improve safety measures at the park to avoid another death.

Coun Antrobus said four bridges will soon be sprayed with anti-vandal paint in a bid to stop people climbing the rails.

These include Clifton Bridge, Detroit

A CYCLIST is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision with a lorry.

Emergency services were called to Wheel Forge Way, Trafford, at around 2.10pm on Friday to reports of a crash between a truck and a cyclist.

The cyclist, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital fighting for his life.

Ashburton Road West was cordoned off for most of the afternoon as police and ambulance crews remained on scene.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene to help police with their

Bridge, the Millennium Bridge and a footbridge over the River Irwell near Forest Bank prison in Agecroft.

It is hoped the paint will deter children from climbing the structures as they will ‘get covered in paint.’

He is also looking to increase patrols around Salford Quays and talks are ongoing to improve signage around Clifton Country Park.

Coun Antrobus said: “We had lots of complaints about young people jumping off bridges both at Salford Quays and Clifton bridge. “Because of the concern and we get it all the time with the very hot weather our engineers did a survey of all the bridges to see what action could be taken. “I agreed to carry out a more detailed survey of the bridges to see if we can intervene in the structures.

“The police have indicated that they will be monitoring Clifton bridge and they’ve had officers down there from time to time to check on it.

“We are trying to see if there is anything more effective we can do in terms of signage.

“Because the fatality wasn’t off the bridge, there are a lot of places along the river where that can happen and it’s hard to decide where to put additional signage.” enquiries. No arrests have been made.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Det Con Emma Kennedy, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are working hard to piece together the circumstances surrounding this collision and have carried out a number of enquiries including capturing witness statements and analysing CCTV footage.”

Anyone with any information should call 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
