Knifepoint carjacking terror

SURVIVAL

-

couldn’t be done while he was weak from coronavirus. He was put on a heart lung bypass machine to keep him alive as he battled the virus.

Nine days into his stay at Alder Hey, Raees beat Covid-19, meaning the complex, high-risk surgery could be done. There was a 50 per cent chance Raees wouldn’t survive the procedure.

It was an agonising six hours for mum Farah and dad Aqeel.

Farah said: “We just prayed and prayed all day for a successful operation. It was such a daunting experience having to wait that long. Each second felt like 100 years.”

The procedure was a success. Now, five weeks after first being rushed to hospital – and a fortnight after the operation – Raees is back at home and getting to know his big brother, three-year-old Ayaan.

Mum Farah added: “I am so thankful to everyone at Alder Hey.”

A YOUNG woman was subjected to a terrifying car jacking at knifepoint.

The 29-year-old had been dropping a friend home on Ballbrook Avenue, off Wilmslow Road in Didsbury, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

She had been putting her postcode into her phone when a man, wearing all black with a face mask, approached the driver’s side of the car.

The woman claims the man pulled a seven or eight-inch kitchen knife from his jacket and threatened to kill her if she didn’t get out of the car.

Greater Manchester Police say they are investigating the robbery, but no arrests have been made and the woman’s car has not been returned.

“It was horrible,” the woman, who doesn’t want to be named, said.

“He was so close and he had the door open - if I had tried to drive off it would have been way too risky.”

She says she got out of her car with her mobile phone and car keys, but the man grabbed them off her.

She managed to take a picture of the man which she has sent to the police.
