BEST OF THE REST
JACK WHITEHALL’S FATHER’S DAY
BBC1, 8.30PM
FATHER’S Day is going to be a bit weird this year. A day to celebrate and visit dads, but from a distance, outdoors, probably in the rain.
Not to worry, comedian Jack Whitehall is here with this special to honour the day and of course his relationship with his own dad Michael.
Jack says he’s a man who knows the importance of maintaining a good father-son relationship, no matter how challenging the father is.
The plan is to visit Michael the lockdown way, setting up for the whole day on the road outside Michael’s front door – something he’s unlikely to enjoy.
If you’ve ever seen Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father, you’ll know that Michael is not the cuddling type – although that’s perfect for lockdown.
Expect the usual Whitehall deadpan banter as the father-son duo spend some enforced quality time together, looking at old family photos, awkward home footage and sharing classic family anecdotes.
MY BRILLIANT FRIEND
SKY ATLANTIC, 9PM
THIS brilliantly cinematic, critically acclaimed series about the complicated relationship between Italian childhood friends Elena and Lila, continues.
Set in post-war 1950s Naples, this is the next chapter of Elena Ferrante’s bestselling series of books, and it doesn’t disappoint.
While Lila (Gaia Girace) is on her honeymoon on the Amalfi coast, Elena (Margherita Mazzucco) is struggling to handle school, her family and her relationship with Antonio.
When Lila gets back, Elena visits her at her new home, but things are strained between them.
Elena is wearing dark shades and hadn’t even told Lila that she had been back for days.
But when Elena discovers that Lila has visible bruises on her body, the two girls revert to their natural closeness and Lila’s will to take revenge against her violent husband Stefano grows.
Meanwhile, Elena’s relationship is threatened when Antonio discovers she has asked the Solaras to help keep him from doing military service.
