‘He will regret going for the rest of his life’

DAD OF STAB VICTIM SPEAKS OUT AFTER ILLEGAL RAVE

- By DAMON WILKINSON

THE father of a teenage boy who was stabbed at a rave in Carrington, Trafford, last weekend said his son would regret going ‘for the rest of his life.’

He said the 18-year-old ‘wouldn’t be with us today’ without the prompt actions of the emergency services.

Hero police officers were forced to run for almost 10 minutes to reach him in a field.

Graphic video footage recorded on body-worn cameras of officers who attended show the teenager begging them to save his life.

He was given first aid at the scene and was rushed to hospital.

Police said on Thursday he was out of intensive care and his condition had improved.

The boy’s father, who isn’t being named, told BBC Radio Manchester: “Kids think they are invincible and they make these decisions and I know my son will regret it for the rest of his life.

“These events aren’t safe. “There’s no cameras, no security because of where it was and the inaccessibility.

“They had to do amazing things just to get to him to save him.”

Up to 2,000 people attended the illegal rave in Carrington.

There were three knife attacks in total and an 18-year-old woman was raped.

Images also revealed youths fighting with what appeared to be machetes or swords.

A second lockdown rave took place at Daisy Nook Country Park in Oldham last Saturday night – attended by up to 4,000 people.

A 20-year-old man died from a suspected drug overdose later.

Police and paramedics told how they were pelted with beer bottles and gas cannisters as they battled to help the victims at the site in Carrington.

Pc Will Horrocks described telling revellers not to enter the rave on land off Common Lane because there’d been a serious incident and it was believed people were carrying weapons.

He said: “Bottles were being thrown at us, people clearly not wanting us to be there and getting quite aggressive to the point where we had to escort paramedics into the site to keep them safe.”

GMP said: “These types of events are dangerous and unacceptable.

“For anyone thinking of attending an illegal rave, we are asking you to stop and think.

“By attending you face the prospect of enforcement action, including arrest and prosecution.”
