‘I’ll knife him’ threat of £10 drug-debt dad

THUG ALSO HIT PAL’S MUM IN FACE DURING RAMPAGE

- By AMY WALKER

A DRUNKEN dad ‘owed £10 for cannabis’ marched to a man’s house with a blade after telling his mum: “I’m going to f***ing knife him.”

When ‘irate’ Craig Jones had the door slammed in his face, he returned to the home he shares with his mother, only to find she’d locked him out and was on the phone to police.

The 38-year-old, from Salford, told her: “Let me in, you f***ing grass.”

He later attacked a friend and punched his pal’s mum in the face, before racially abusing a police officer after being arrested.

Now dad-of-three Jones has been jailed for 18 months following a Manchester Crown Court hearing.

He admitted damaging property, racially-aggravated harassment, assault by beating, possession of a bladed article, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Paul Dockery, prosecuting, said that on February 4, Jones was ‘clearly angry’ having failed to recover a debt. He grabbed a kitchen knife and headed for the door.

Mr Dockery said: “His mother grabbed him by the arm and told him to put the knife back. The defendant claimed he didn’t have a knife, before dropping it to the floor. He then picked up the knife and said he was going to go and stab the man.”

Jones went to a house around the corner, where the man who ‘owed him money’ lived with his mum and brother.

He banged on the front door and demanded £10. The man’s brother answered and Jones said: “I’m going to cut you up.” The brother slammed the door and Jones left.

Jones was said to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time – and may have confused the alleged debtor and his brother.

“The defendant returned to his home, but by that time his mother had locked the door and rang the police as she was fearful as to what her son might do,” Mr Dockery said.

After breaking a window with his fist, Jones then went to a friend’s house.

His friend’s mum made her ‘poor views’ about him known, before he raised a first to her.

She raised a hand to stop him, before he left. The pair exchanged words and Jones punched the woman in the face. He then rowed with his friend, before attacking him.

Mr Dockery said: “It’s very difficult to take a clear view of what took place, as the allegations were born out of his injuries. Items were thrown at the head or face of him, including a portable radiator, electric fan or fan heater.”

Police arrested Jones at his friend’s house. While in the back of a van, he became aggressive and racially abused an officer.

When interviewed by police, Jones accepted most of the allegations, apart from assaulting his friend’s mother. He claimed he punched his friend ‘five or six times’ because he had spat at him.

He admitted being drunk at the time. Jones, of Kitchener Avenue, Cadishead, has previous convictions for a range of offences, including battery, assaulting a police officer, criminal damage; harassment and dishonesty.

In November 2018, he was made the subject of a 12-month community order for assaulting a police officer.

Rob Kearney, defending, said: “Some items were thrown about. Clearly drink is an issue – he was not thinking straight.

“The violence used was in a very random fashion and the knife was not used for any violence.”

Sentencing Jones, Judge Hilary Manley said: “This was a shocking and shameful compilation of behaviour you had with anyone who crossed your path. You have a terrible record.”
