PHIL YOUR BOOTS! CITY THRASH BURNLEY

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

SERGIO Aguero could be ruled out of the rest of the season for City after being forced off in the Premier League win over Burnley.

The Argentine striker, making his first start since the league was restarted, was fouled in the box towards the end of the first half in a tackle from Ben Mee that was given as a penalty by VAR.

He had limped off by the time Riyad Mahrez slammed home the spotkick to make it 3-0.

Pep Guardiola’s side head to Chelsea on Thursday in a game that could hand Liverpool the title should they lose, before travelling to Newcastle for an FA Cup quarter-final that they will be targeting as one of two remaining competitions they can still win this season.

But the Blues may have to make do without Aguero for their remaining efforts in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League - where they still face a last-16 second leg clash with Real Madrid.

“It doesn’t look good, unfortunately.” said Guardiola.

“We are going to see tomorrow. He was struggling in the last month with a problem in the knee and now he felt something, so we will see tomorrow exactly what he has but it doesn’t look good for this season.

“The doctor says it will take time. A few games [out] for sure but maybe tomorrow the tests he will get good news - we will see.”

City have not struggled to score goals in Aguero’s absence in recent matches, with the Argentine not having contributed personally to the eight the Blues have put past Arsenal and Burnley.

But their top scorer will still be wanted back as soon as possible.

John Stones and Claudio Bravo were absent again. The pair also missed the game with Arsenal with injury, although Guardiola had indicated they are close to returning.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden has urged David Silva to sign a new contract and stay at City.

The young midfielder is set to replace the Spaniard when he leaves the club at the end of the season.

But Foden says he is loving playing alongside the Blues legend, and doesn’t want it to stop.

“I think he should extend his contract to be honest,” said City’s two-goal hero.

“How he played today, it’s unbelievable. I don’t want to think about it too much, I’m just enjoying playing with him. It’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Foden showed once again he is ready to become a regular in the City firstteam with a man-of-the-match display.

“I’d like to think that was my best game in a City shirt,” he said.

“I’m still learning every day so I’ve got a long way to go but I’m just happy when I put in performances like that.”
