Bosnich: It’s clear what’s wrong with De Gea!

-

MARK Bosnich has explained the one main area David De Gea will have to work on should he wish to improve his form.

The Spaniard came under criticism for failing to stop Steven Bergwijn’s effort that gave Tottenham the lead in the 1-1 draw on Friday night.

Roy Keane in particular gave a scathing assessment of De Gea. Stating during his half-time analysis of the match on Sky Sports: “I’m sick to death of this goalkeeper. I would be fighting him at half-time, there is no getting away from that. I would be swinging punches at that guy.” Following the criticism, former United keeper Bosnich has identified the area that is letting De Gea down.

“He has had a season that has been full of mistakes that he hasn’t made on a consistent basis in the past, there is no doubt about that,” he said.

“In terms of the goal against Tottenham, the most important thing, and I’m sure his goalkeeping coach would notice from a technical point of view, is that there is something wrong when he sets for shots.

“You set for shots and your feet are outside the width of your shoulders you’re going to have problems as the natural reaction then is to go backwards when a shot is hit quite hard, you’ve got no room to manoeuvre your feet and if you’re going backwards and the ball hits you, invariably it’s going to go in the back of the goal. “So that’s something they definitely need to work on.”

“It has been more than a blip this season.”
