A BOY of 13 was seriously injured in a stabbing.

The teenager suffered a non lifechanging wound to his leg after being attacked in the Rudman Drive area of the Ordsall estate in Salford.

It is understood the child was knifed during a domestic incident.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding.

The victim was first treated at the scene by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service. The suspect remained in custody.

Several police patrols responded to the scene just before lunchtime yesterday and a large cordon was put in place, with some roads closed.

Residents of the close-knit community have been left ‘disgusted’ that their young neighbour was attacked. They say the boy’s mum is ‘devastated.’

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard people screaming. I looked out of the window and the whole estate was out on the street saying there was a young boy that had been stabbed.

“It’s disgusting. The person that did it can’t come around here again.”

Another resident heard the chaos and ran out in the street along with many other neighbours looking to help. She said: “I could see his leg, there was such a big gash. It was like when you butterfly a piece of meat.

“The boy’s mum came over to me and her head was completely gone. She kept saying ‘he’s dead, he’s dead.’

“There was someone there giving him first aid and then the ambulance arrived.”

One of the neighbouring residents, who also wished not to be named, said: “We get a bad reputation, but not everyone here is like this. It’s usually quite a quiet estate, it’s surprising to hear that it was a kid that was stabbed.

“It’s not like it happens every day, this is a one-off because of a not-right.

“Yes, this estate has problems, but we don’t want our kids growing up watching this.”

On June 8, a 19-year-old man was seriously injured following a stabbing in Old Lane, Little Hulton. Earlier this month three people were stabbed at an illegal rave in Carrington.

In December, the M.E.N. reported that a task force set up to tackle violent crime, including the use of knives in Greater Manchester, has received a multi-million pound cash boost from government.

The Home Office announced 18 police and crime commissioners will receive a share of an extra £35m to tackle violent crime in their area.

Our region is expected to benefit from an extra £3.3m over the course of 2020 to 2021.

The Violence Reduction Unit brings together GMP and other local agencies to address and prevent the underlying causes of violent crime.

The launch of the unit in October 2019 came after a number of highprofile incidents, many of which involved the use of a knife.

Shocking figures released in October last year revealed that nine knife crimes A DAY are recorded across Greater Manchester. Statistics show there were 3,437 crimes involving knives recorded by GMP over a 12-month period to June – a figure believed to represent a sharp rise.
