Partner found man dead after overdose

-

A JOINER was found dead in bed by his partner following a drug overdose, an inquest heard.

Adam McGreevy, 30, was found unresponsive at his home in Wigan just hours after finishing work.

An inquest into his death heard he had taken a combination of drugs and medications in the hours beforehand.

In written statements read during the hearing at Bolton Coroners’ Court, loved ones said Mr McGreevy had been taking painkillers for several months to help relieve pain from a shoulder injury. His girlfriend Rachael Myers said he had complained of experiencing heart palpitations, which he feared were becoming increasingly regular.

Paying tribute to Mr McGreevy after the hearing, Ms Myers described Mr McGreevy as ‘the love of her life’.

In a statement read out at the hearing, Ms Myers said Mr McGreevy had been to pick her up after finishing work on December 20, 2019. They went to Mr McGreevy’s home, in Landsdowne Terrace, Swinley. At about 6pm, Mr McGreevy left the house to meet up with a friend. He returned about 30 minutes later, and although he did not tell Ms Myers what he had been doing, she said he seemed to be ‘his usual self’.

However, Ms Myers said she was aware that Mr McGreevy had taken a dose of co-codamol during the course of the evening.

After enjoying a few drinks together, the couple headed to bed at about 10.15pm But in the early hours of the morning, Ms Myers reached out to touch Mr McGreevy’s arm and found him cold and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced Mr McGreevy dead at the scene.

Toxicology tests carried out following his death revealed traces of alcohol, codeine, flualprazolam and paracetamol. Coroner Alan Walsh recorded a verdict of ‘drugrelated death’.
