Four women arrested over spate of attacks

- By ALEXANDRA RUCKI

FOUR women were arrested after a woman and two shop workers were assaulted.

The first victim, a 28-year-old woman, has described the moment she was attacked as she returned to her flat on Jersey Street in Ancoats.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she saw a large group of teenagers approach the block of flats at around 6.30pm on Saturday, June 20. They attempted to get inside the building and kicked the door down.

A member of the group then hit the victim on the temple and she also injured her foot when trying to close the door.

The group eventually ran off when a neighbour appeared and attempted to film the group.

Later that evening, two shop workers were attacked at MM2 Local, on Great Ancoats Street.

Shelves were also understood to have been smashed. The shop staff, a woman and a man, suffered minor injuries. Police said four women were arrested on suspicion of two counts of section 47 assault and criminal damage.

They have all since been released under investigation.

The first victim told the M.E.N: “I looked around and I saw seven to eight teenagers 10-15 metres away from me. They were looking in my direction. I heard the door close. They couldn’t see I had stayed by the door on the inside.

“One of the girls started shouting ‘What the f*** are you looking at? Why are you not letting us in?’

“They then lost it and kicked the door down, the magnet locks are not that strong. One of them managed to land two hits on my temple. I have got a bump there at the moment. As I was trying to shut the door it closed on my foot so that is also injured.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting 2810 of 20/06/20.
