Pogba in full control claims United boss

- By DOMINIC BOOTH

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer felt Paul Pogba ‘controlled’ United’s routine 3-0 win over Sheffield United.

Pogba, 27, was selected for his first start since September 30 and flourished again after his effective introduction at Tottenham last week.

The stroll against Sheffield United marked the first time Pogba and Bruno Fernandes had lined up together for United in an exciting front six, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial joined by Mason Greenwood up front.

Pogba is poised to start again in the FA Cup quarter-final at Norwich on Saturday and Solskjaer is excited by what he has seen from the Frenchman over the last week.

“Paul is still a bit away from his best form,” Solskjaer said. “That’s natural on his first start since September and he’s been working hard, so hopefully it won’t be too long, but I thought he controlled the game.

“Paul and Bruno showed quality and it’s exciting for us to be working with talent like this and keep on working until the next one.

“They tried to press us at times but it’s vital for us to believe we can play out the press and, if teams want to drop off, we can see the connection between Anthony, Mason, Paul, and Bruno and we can create chances from those situations as well.

“We should’ve scored more today. We were a little bit lackadaisical with the final pass. When we’re in 100 per cent shape we’ll be better.”

United are now only six points off Leicester in third and unbeaten in 13 matches.
