Liz Hurley’s son wanted a father, not his millions
IT IS impossible not to feel for Damian Hurley following his father’s suspected suicide this week. Although poised to become the world’s richest teenager through his dad Steve Bing’s estate, Liz Hurley’s only child never once met his dad.
Bing’s death at 55 was a tragic end to a tragic story for Damian. His parents endured a toxic two-year relationship that began in 2000 as she was splitting from Hugh Grant.
It came to a shuddering halt when Hurley fell pregnant, sparking a furious paternity row. Bing, who had a reported £482 million fortune, initially claimed the child had nothing to do with him.
He argued the couple were not in an exclusive relationship, which the actress vehemently denied.
It was an early taste of the animosity the Bing family have held for Hurley, and that is set to now resurface as the battle begins for her ex’s multi-million dollar fortune.
At the start of the star’s pregnancy, Bing’s younger sister was interviewed by Vanity Fair.
Mary Bing, 53, accused Liz of having “reproductively taken advantage” of her brother. Last year Bing’s own father tried to cut Damian, 18, out of the family’s trust fund in a bitter court battle as he didn’t consider him a relation.
It is understood it is what led Hurley to grow once again close to Bing as he took on his father in support of his son.
The philanthropist’s family have behaved shamefully towards Damian who, like it or not, is part of their family.
No matter what feelings they hold towards this mother, it is hard to see how they could take it out on the teenager, depriving him of a family’s love and trying to deprive him of his inheritance.
I’m sure Damian would trade the money just to have been able to spend time with the only man he could call “dad”.
